BASIC BIBLE STUDY HELPS.

My heartfelt Thanks to Harold E. Metcalf author of these 88 Bible Lessons. As part of the “World Bible Publishers” Bible  243 ABR. Copy write William Collins Sons & Co. Ltd 1975.

1. Inspiration of the Bible  {all quotes are from the the King James Bible- KJV}

1. Where the Bible came from.

This Book, [of 66 Love Letters to you His child] is a revelation of God to man consisting of sixty-six books bound together and forming one Book. Twenty two of the books of the Bible are mainly Historical, twenty one are largely books of prophecy, twenty-one are in the form of letters, and two are primarily poetic.

Even though written by at least thirty-six different persons who were kings, farmers, lawyers, generals, fishermen, ministers, and priests, a tax collector, a doctor, some rich, most poor, stretching over a period of 1600 years, written in three languages-Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic, on three continents, Asia , Europe, and the Middle east. Yet the Bible is but one book because God was the true Author.

2 Timothy 3:16. “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”

1. Who gave the prophecies of the Bible by means of the Holy Spirit?

2 Peter 1:21. “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”

1 Peter 1:10-11. “Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.”

Note: “The Spirit of Christ”, inspired the prophets to show that the whole Bible is a Christian Book.

2. How much of the Bible is inspired by God Himself?

2 Timothy 3:16. “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”

Note (jb) Why?….>

2 Timothy 3:17. “That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”

3. Who revealed the future to the prophets through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit?

Amos 3:7. “Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.”

4. Did the prophets recognize that their messages were from God?

2 Samuel 23:2. “The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.” {David spoke this, and Jeremiah said}…>

Jeremiah 1:9. “Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.”

Luke 1:70. “As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:”  [Spoken by Zacharias, the father of John the baptist.]

5. By what means does John say the Book of Revelation was given?

Revelation 1:1-2. “The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.”

Note (jb) Many “teachers”, hold not to teach from this book of Revelation, but consider the full title. “The Revelations of Jesus Christ” plus ask them to explain this verse…..>

Revelation 1:3. “Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.”

Note: In the above steps we can see that God’s messages to the prophets we can see that God is the fountainhead of truth. Christ received truth from the Father. Jesus then gave it to the chosen angel. The angel communicated the message to the prophet, who in turn passed it on either orally, or by writing, or both.

Conclusion:

It is evident that it was …..>

Hebrews 1:1. “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,”.    The Bible is God’ s book His 66 Love letters to His children. Because it is His Word it shall stand forever. Isaiah 40:8. “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.”

Job 23:12. “Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.”
